Maribor 2112Ai 100YC

04 4th, 2017

Over the last decade, architecturaltheory.eu has been continuously present at the Venice Architecture Biennale in different capacities. 2012 Bart Lootsma was personally invited to Maribor 2112Ai 100YC, a project curated by Prof. Tom Kovac of RMIT Melbourne for Maribor 2012 Cultural Capital and the Slovenian Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale. The 100 Year City project set out to design a vision for the development of Maribor in 100 years. Students of the Master Design Studio, under supervision of Bart Lootsma, with assistance of Prof. Peter Trummer of the Institute for Urbanism and Spatial Planning and Martin Mutschlechner from stadtlabor, developed prognoses and visions based on different scenarios for Maribor. We also organized a symposium in preparation of the project in Innsbruck and participated in the symposium at the opening of the exhibition in the Slovenian pavilion. Our more diagrammatic contribution with three different scenarios, was considered a welcome addition to many of the other, more static, computer-generated final images other universities produced, as they were based on the methods of scenario-planning, which became successful in France and in The Netherlands from the nineteen sixties on.
