In the academic year 2009/2010, the Chair of Architectural Theory and students studied various urban, architectural and cultural phenomena in Luxembourg. Ceci n’ est pas… Luxembourg is our contemporary way of “Learning from Las Vegas”. In Ceci n’ est pas… Luxembourg, we learned and researched together about the role of Luxembourg as a model of a post-industrial society in a globalised world and the specific nature of Luxembourg’s architectural and spatial production.
The title of the project is not only an allusion to René Magritte’s famous painting ‘Ceci n’est pas une pipe’ but also points out in general that Luxembourg is not what it seems—especially when it comes to architecture and urban planning.
