The Poeme Électronique by Le Corbusier, Edgard Varese and Iannis Xenakis
For more than 25 years, the Philips Pavillion and the Poeme Électronique remained Le Corbusier’s most mysterious projects –even though thousands and thousands of people had seen them at the 1958 Brussels Expo. The Oeuvre Complete only shows only three photographs of the pavilion, all from the outside, and an early model. The film Poeme Électronique that was shown inside the pavillion, made by Le Corbusier with a musical score by Edgard Varese and the musical ‘entreacte’ Concrete PH by Iannis Xenakis, was for a long time only available without the crucial colour projections that went with it. This article offers a reconstruction based on the original Philips archives.
